Timber Festival Shake-Up: River Giant Folds, Ivan & Alyosha Step In

Ivan & Alyosha

Artist Home‘s (AH) brand new hootenanny, Timber! Outdoor Music Festival is only a few days away, and we’re full of anticipation and restless leg syndrome in the best ways. We’re positive Timber Festival is going to be grand. After all, these are the folks who make us shake a leg and break a stage at Doe Bay Festival, chill out with some children, popsicles in hand, for their Summer Bonfire Series, and otherwise get down or jump around (whichever direction is required) at their various showcases. Basically, they know what’s up.

But while we couldn’t be any stoked-er (New word. Done.) about the line-up for the Fest, we were a little bummed to learn that River Giant had icksnayed their set (ettsay?) — and, for that matter, their band. AH posted the news on July 18 of the shake up, saying “BOOM! So we heard the news this morning that River Giant broke up and thus wouldn’t be performing at Timber Outdoor Music Festival. However, we are ELATED to announce that none other than Ivan & Alyosha will be taking their place!! WOO HOO!!!”

Um, hello best possible scenario! Ivan & Alyosha were one of my favorite bands at Doe Bay Festival 2012, with my lovely audience-mates (new word x2) feeling inspired to grab some pots and ladles and make their own rhythm section. The handsome, charming front man Tim Wilson and his buttoned-up band of pros keep your feet barely on the ground while singing hits like “Be Your Man” (check out their brand new video below). Tambourines definitely aren’t frowned upon; bring one (if you can use it responsibly).

As for River Giant’s breakup, we are super sad to hear it. We have a belated tour diary coming out from the sweet, awesome band, but will certainly be pouring one out (of the sustainable, collector’s edition Timber! tumbler) for our fallen homies. Last we spoke to them, Kyle was talking about taking some big bounds, so perhaps eventually we’ll get more info than their Facebook post informing fans, briefly, “We’ve broken up. River Giant won’t be playing any more shows. On to our next adventures.”

Our next adventure? Timber Fest. July 26-27 in Carnation, WA. Coming? There are (miraculously) still a few tickets left. Get yours here:  http://bit.ly/timbertickets
